Patna: Patna University (PU) on Wednesday marked the start of a new academic chapter as most postgraduate departments organised induction programmes for newly admitted regular-stream students for the 2026-27 session.The sessions were held to help freshers transition smoothly into university life by introducing them to departmental traditions, academic programmes, faculty members and campus facilities. Formal classes for the new batch will begin on Thursday.Departments including philosophy, economics, history, physics, mathematics, chemistry and geology organised the programmes in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Students participated in large numbers, expressing enthusiasm about beginning their postgraduate studies.Dean, students’ welfare, Kameshwar Pandit, advised students to remain regular and sincere in their studies, and said teachers would be available to guide and support them.The induction programmes also aimed to encourage interaction between teachers and students and to help newcomers build friendships and a sense of belonging within their departments.Meanwhile, the second-round PG admission process has begun, with admissions based on the second merit list scheduled to be completed by Sept 12, Pandit said.Admissions under the self-financing stream are also underway and are expected to conclude shortly.—
