The team accordingly raided the centre and sealed it,” Ranchi civil surgeon Prabhat Kumar said. The team confiscated an ultrasound machine, computer sets, printers, bill books and other items. “The licence to run the centre had expired six months ago. Also, the owner changed the location of the centre from Dangra Toli to Kanta Toli. However, we had not found any proof of illegal sex determination,” the civil surgeon added.Notably, there persons were arrested on June 7 for allegedly running an ultrasound centre for sex determination in city’s Pandra area. The licences of 30 ultrasound centres across Jharkhand were suspended for various alleged irregularities in 2025-26. Of these, 17 were cancelled in Bokaro, three in Dhanbad, two each in Deoghar, East Singhbhum, Godda and Hazaribag districts and one each in Koderma and Simdega districts.Jharkhand chapter of National Health Mission (NHM) director Shashi Prakash Jha recently directed all officials to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against illegal sex determination in the state and other violations of the PCPNDT Act and instructed the formation of special teams to conduct surprise inspections.
