Ranchi: Ranchi’s waterfalls, hills and dams are drawing visitors, but inadequate civic amenities at several popular destinations continue to affect the experience. From Dassam Falls and Hundru Falls to Tagore Hill, and the city’s dams, visitors often find gaps in toilets, drinking water, seating, waste disposal, parking, lighting and signage.At the waterfalls, where footfall rises during the tourist season, sanitation and waste management become particularly important. Visitors and local vendors said the availability of usable toilets and drinking-water points remains limited at some locations, while littering around busy visitor areas adds to the problem.“People come here to spend several hours with their families, but finding a clean toilet is not always easy. This becomes particularly difficult for women, children and elderly visitors,” said Neha Kumari, a visitor at Hundru Falls.At Dassam Falls, visitors also pointed to parking and crowd management concerns during busy days. Vehicles parked along approach areas can make movement difficult, while the absence of prominent information boards leaves first-time visitors dependent on locals for directions.“The falls are the main attraction, but there should also be proper arrangements for visitors. A clearly marked parking area would make movement much easier on crowded days,” said Rohit Kumar, a visitor at Dassam Falls.At Tagore Hill, visitors said the site’s appeal as a city landmark could be complemented by better seating, lighting and visitor information. The absence of adequate resting spaces can be inconvenient for people climbing or spending time at the site.“Tagore Hill is visited by both locals and tourists, but there is not enough information about the place for someone visiting for the first time. A few well-placed signboards could make the visit more informative,” said Sonal Singh, a visitor.“The natural surroundings are beautiful, but the facilities around the falls need more attention. Clean toilets, dustbins and proper resting areas would make a significant difference for visitors,” said Aakash Kumar, a visitor at Jonha Falls.“Maintenance work at tourist destinations is carried out regularly, and Paryatak Mitras are given directions from time to time, along with assistance from the department for upkeep of the sites. The maintenance at Hundru Falls has been completely upgraded, and adequate dustbins have been provided to the Paryatak Mitras for waste management. At Tagore Hill, renovation of the stairs is also underway to improve access for visitors,” said Shivendra Kumar, district nodal officer for tourism.
