Ranchi: Drinking water supply will remain affected across several Ranchi localities on Wednesday and Thursday as the drinking water and sanitation department is undertaking maintenance on a key pipeline under the Rukka urban water supply scheme. An official notification said repair and replacement work will be carried out on the main pipeline near Jumar bridge. As a result, water supply from the Rukka Water Treatment Plant through the Ratu Road distribution line will remain temporarily suspended during the maintenance period. The disruption is likely to affect more than 60,000 households in areas served by the Ratu Road line, including Lalpur, Kokar, Booty More, Zila School area, OCC campus, Hindpiri and adjoining localities.Chandrashekhar, executive engineer, Getalsud Dam division, said the maintenance involves replacing a portion of the main pipeline to strengthen the network and prevent future interruptions.“The work is necessary to ensure smooth and uninterrupted water supply in the coming months. Residents in affected areas have been advised to store adequate water in advance,” he said. The announcement has worried residents, many of whom said they have already been facing irregular supply in recent weeks.“We have not been getting water regularly even on normal days. Sometimes, the supply duration is very short and pressure remains low. With the supply now being suspended for two days, managing household needs will become difficult,” said Jyoti Khanna, a Lalpur resident.Preeti Kumari, from Kokar, said families were already struggling due to inconsistent supply.“The disruption comes at a time when households require more water for cleaning and sanitation during the monsoon season. Two days without regular supply will force many families to ration their stored water.”Officials urged residents to use water judiciously until normal supply resumes after completion of the scheduled maintenance work later.
