Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has reclaimed nearly 17 acres of encroached land across the city over the past year and is now focusing on demarcating the plots and constructing boundary walls to prevent fresh encroachments, according to a statement issued on Monday.The civic body has provided details of 10 sites, which together account for around 16.96 acres of reclaimed land. These include approximately 4.8 acres at Edalhatu, 2.8 acres at Bada Ghagra, 5 acres at Manitola, 1.2 acres at Gwala Toli in Doranda, 1 acre at Doranda Bazaar and 0.44 acres at Booty More Chowk.RMC also reclaimed 78.65 decimals at Kusum Vihar, 51 decimals near Karamtoli pond, 31.5 decimals at Urdu School in Tharpakhna and 11 decimals at Pinjra Pokhar/Gaushala Chowk, among other locations.Boundary walls are being constructed at several reclaimed sites, including Morabadi electric sub-station, Morabadi registry office, Naga Baba Khatal MRF centre, Tracker Stand MRF centre and Bakri Bazaar store.“The reclaimed land will eventually be put to public use,” the statement said.RMC has proposed vending zones at Morabadi, Booty More and Doranda Bazaar. Labour chowks have also been developed at Doranda Bazaar and other locations. Other reclaimed plots may be used for libraries, shelters, public facilities and waste management infrastructure.“The objective is to ensure that every inch of civic land remains public property and is converted, wherever required, into a useful development asset for Ranchi,” the statement said.
