Patna: District magistrate Thiyagarajan S M on Friday reviewed traffic management and anti-encroachment operations in the city, directing officials to intensify enforcement and streamline coordination among departments.Officials informed the meeting that 253 drives were conducted between April 2025 and April 13, 2026, during which fines exceeding Rs2 crore were collected. Of this, over Rs1.14 crore was recovered from encroachment violators, with 1,978 items seized, while the traffic police collected Rs1.57 crore for violations of traffic rules.The DM directed the superintendent of police (traffic) and the additional district magistrate (city management) to identify congestion points and take targeted action. He also asked officials to ensure that all 3,300 CCTV cameras under the Integrated Traffic Management System remain functional. The system includes 473 red-light violation detection cameras and 150 automatic number plate recognition units installed across 415 locations.The DM emphasised regular patrolling, identification of vending zones and removal of both temporary and permanent encroachments from key roads, including Nehru Path, Gandhi Maidan and Atal Path. Officials were instructed to strictly enforce no-parking zones, close unauthorised road cuts and ensure compliance with one-way traffic systems.The district transport officer was directed to carry out drives against unauthorised parking, overspeeding and irregular operation of e-rickshaws and buses.The meeting also stressed the need for coordination between the Patna Municipal Corporation, NHAI and the road construction department to implement road widening and beautification projects. Senior police and administrative officials from Patna Sadar, Danapur and Patna City attended the meeting.
