Ranchi: In a major push towards making cleanliness an integral part of daily life through active citizen participation, Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) launched the fortnight-long ‘Swachhata Hi Seva-2026’ campaign on Thursday. Municipal Commissioner Sushant Gaurav urged everyone to adopt cleanliness not merely as a temporary campaign, but as a regular habit in daily life and a collective civic responsibility. “Building a clean city is not possible through the efforts of the Municipal Corporation alone; the active role of every citizen is essential,” he said.Scheduled to run from Sept 17 to Oct 2, the campaign is aligned with the national theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat” (Participation in Cleanliness; Clean India, Developed India).During the campaign period, RMC will organise special cleanliness drives, public awareness programmes, and various participatory activities across different areas of the city. Through these initiatives, citizens will be educated on cleanliness and encouraged to remain vigilant and proactive regarding their sanitation responsibilities. The municipal body has specifically urged residents to dispose of garbage exclusively at designated spots, practise source segregation of wet and dry waste, avoid littering in public places, and inspire their families, neighbours, and community members to maintain high hygiene standards.Simultaneously, Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Airport launched the campaign by conducting an extensive cleaning drive at the airport premises. As part of the outreach effort, Airport Authorities organised a painting-cum-poster competition on the theme ‘Swachhata Evam Jal Sanchay’ for students at PM SHRI KV, Hinoo, Ranchi, which saw active participation from more than 80 students. An interactive awareness session detailing ‘Solid Waste Management and Importance of Cleanliness’ was also conducted at the school.Joining the initiative, CMPDI, a PSU, launched the campaign across its headquarters and regional institutes.
