Tragic collision aftermath: Twelve arrested as Garhwa protests turn violent; Road blockade over tractor accident leads to injuries and police action

Garhwa: Twelve people were arrested in Garhwa on Thursday evening after a protest by locals turned violent. The incident took place under Town police station limits. The police said besides 12 arrests, 24 two-wheelers were seized from the spot.Residents of Mahulia village set up a road blockade to seek compensation for the families of Nand Lal Ram (26) and Rahul Chaudhury (26), who were killed on Wednesday night after a speeding tractor hit their motorbike. The locals turned aggressive when police teams tried to remove the blockade. The mob pelted stones at the police and also damaged a police vehicle. Police personnel then resorted to baton-charge and fired rounds in the air for self defence.Garhwa SP Aman Kumar said, “Over a dozen protesters have been arrested so far and over two dozen bikes have been seized from the spot. People from both sides are injured. The situation is tense but under control though.”
