Woman dies by suicide after argument with husband in Samastipur

Patna: A 27-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide following a dispute with her husband at her maternal home in Vanbeera village under Halai police station area in Samastipur district on Sunday night. Police said the woman, upset over her husband’s prolonged absences from home due to work commitments, allegedly hanged herself after an argument.The deceased, identified as Kavita Devi, wife of Ravi Rai, was the mother of four children, including a six-month-old daughter.According to local residents, Kavita and Ravi frequently argued over the latter’s work as a driver, which often kept him away from home. Family members said the couple had another disagreement on Sunday night over the same issue.A neighbour, Bahadur Rai, said he returned from Patna around 9.30pm and learnt that Kavita had allegedly taken the extreme step. By the time he reached the house, a crowd had gathered and the body had been taken down.Police reached the spot soon after, took the body into custody and sent it to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem after completing the inquest proceedings.Members of the woman’s parental family also arrived at the spot. An argument broke out between them and the victim’s in-laws. Following the altercation, Ravi and his family members left the village, while the woman’s relatives also departed later.Patori SDPO B K Medhavi said preliminary investigation suggested that the woman died by hanging. He said police had been informed about a dispute between the husband and wife. “No complaint has been received from either side so far. Further action will be taken after an application is received,” the SDPO said.Police are awaiting the post-mortem report and any formal complaint before proceeding further with the investigation.
