Kalyan: A gruesome murder came to light in Kalyan on Sunday where a woman allegedly killed her 37-year-old live-in partner, stuffed his body in a sack, dumped it in the bathroom of their rented flat and fled to Kolkata days before sending a voice note to the landlord confessing to the crime.Alarmed by the message, the landlord, Ajay Patil, immediately informed Manpada police, who broke open the flat door at Neelkanth Society on Malang Road and recovered the body. Police suspect the woman had killed him five to six days ago since the body was decomposed.Residents told police that they had noticed a foul smell emanating from the locked apartment for the past two to three days. “We initially thought the foul smell was due to a garbage or drainage issue. None of us imagined a body was lying inside the apartment,” said a worker employed at the society. The deceased, Hamidulla Islam, and the accused, Hasiba, were reportedly living together in the rented apartment for the last one and half months.Preliminary investigation revealed that Hamidulla was allegedly murdered with a sharp-edged weapon before his body was packed into a sack and dumped in the bathroom. Police suspect Hasiba left the water tap running continuously to hasten decomposition of the body and wash away bloodstains and other forensic evidence.Patil said he was shocked after receiving the voice note on Sunday. “The woman informed me over a voice message that she had killed her boyfriend and that his body was lying in the bathroom. She even asked me to perform his last rites. I immediately contacted the police,” he said.Assistant commissioner of police Suhas Hemade said they have registered a case of murder and a team has been sent to Kolkata to trace the accused. “The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and forensic experts have collected evidence from the scene. We are investigating the motive behind the murder, and further facts will emerge after the accused is arrested and questioned,” he added.
