Buxar: At least 10 students fainted due to extreme heat amid the ongoing heatwave like conditions at Kanehari High School in Rajpur block of Buxar district on Monday.According to school headmaster Arvind Kumar Singh, the incident occurred shortly after the morning assembly when classes had just begun. Several students complained of dizziness and weakness before collapsing in classrooms and corridors. Teachers and staff immediately rushed to their help and provided first aid.“We soon shifted the affected students to shaded areas, placed them under fans and informed senior officials. Parents were alerted, and a medical team reached the school without delay,” Singh said. Students whose condition was relatively serious were taken by ambulance to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Rajpur, where they were treated and discharged by the afternoon. Their condition is now stable, he added.This was the second such incident at the school in three days, with a similar episode reported on Saturday. The headmaster attributed both incidents to spell of extreme heat and said the school had earlier requested medicines and oral rehydration solution (ORS) from the health department, but supplies had not yet arrived. Following Monday’s incident, authorities ordered early closure of the school at 9am as a precautionary measure. Parents and local residents have urged the administration to take immediate steps to protect students during the heatwave.Rajpur CHC medical officer Dr Sujit Kumar said the children were treated with IV fluids and refreshments. He noted that many students attend morning classes without proper meals, which, combined with high temperatures, may have aggravated the situation.Meanwhile, a district coordination committee and disaster management meeting was held at the collectorate under district magistrate Sahila. Officials were directed to ensure availability of ORS in all schools, repair defunct hand pumps on priority and submit photographic proof after completion in view of prevailing heatwave conditions.
