Sasaram: Fourteen students of a govt high school in Rohtas district have been expelled after a video allegedly showing them dancing to a caste-based song inside the school’s smart classroom surfaced on social media. Following the incident, the education department and local administration ordered a probe into the episode and the circumstances that led to it.The incident came to light at Govt High School in Derhgaon village under Dawath police station area in Bikramganj subdivision on Tuesday. According to officials, students of Classes IX and X allegedly entered the smart classroom, played a caste-based song and danced to it. The episode was captured on video, which was later circulated on social media.The video drew the attention of education authorities, following which Dawath block education officer Anand Kishore Singh visited the school on Wednesday and sought an explanation from the management. Subsequently, headmaster L B Rai identified 14 students allegedly involved in the incident and ordered their expulsion.Bikramganj sub-divisional officer (SDO) Dilip Kumar has directed officials to constitute an inquiry team to examine the circumstances leading to the incident. The team will submit its findings, on the basis of which further action will be taken, officials said.Local residents said accountability should not be limited to the students and demanded that the role of the school administration also be examined as part of the inquiry. Villagers questioned how students gained access to the smart classroom and whether adequate supervision was in place at the time of the incident.They have called for a comprehensive investigation to determine whether the episode was solely a case of student indiscipline or whether lapses in supervision and management also contributed to it. They said responsibility should be fixed only after all aspects of the incident are thoroughly examined.
