Ranchi: To meet the rising demand and tackle power outages, the Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) on Tuesday commenced work on commissioning three new 33 kV power circuits across the city. Two of the circuits are being laid from the Namkum grid to the Kokar rural and RMCH feeders, while the third will connect the Pani Tanki power substation to the PHED feeder.JBVNL Ranchi Supply Area general manager Manmohan Kumar said, “If a fault occurs or maintenance is required on an existing line, the affected area will no longer suffer a power cut, as uninterrupted supply will be seamlessly routed through the alternative line.”To minimise weather-induced disruptions, JBVNL is adding underground cables in two areas where overhead lines already exist. The new Namkum-Kokar rural circuit will feature a 6 km-long underground cable network, immediately stabilising power supply for around 15,000 connections. Similarly, the Namkum-RMCH feeder line is getting a 6.5 km underground link. The Pani Tanki substation-PHED feeder, for the Booty pump house which draws water from the Rukka dam for municipal supply, now relies on a tapped overhead line from the Namkum grid to the Vikas feeder. JBVNL has erected 15 new poles to install a dedicated, secondary overhead 33 kV line.“Having two dedicated lines ensures that a power fault will not trigger a water crisis in the area concerned,” Kumar added.Trials for the Namkum-Kokar circuit and Pani Tanki-PHED feeder line are scheduled for Wednesday, with both expected to go live upon successful testing. The underground line connecting the Namkum grid to RMCH feeder is expected to become fully operational within a few days.
