5-year-old girl dies trapped in parked car in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: A five-year-old girl died after reportedly getting trapped inside a parked car that she and her elder brother had entered to escape the scorching heat.The incident took place on Wednesday in the Tungri area under the Sadar police station limits in West Singhbhum district.According to police, siblings Ankit (7) and Ishani (5), residents of Tungri, entered an abandoned car while returning home from school to seek relief from the intense afternoon heat. The vehicle was parked outside the Green Flats compound near the SPG Mission Compound locality, where the children lived.Within minutes of entering the stationary car, both children began experiencing breathing difficulties. Ishani soon started gasping for breath and lost consciousness. Ankit somehow managed to open the car door, escape, and run towards his house to seek help, police said.“On his way home, the boy spotted his grandfather on the street and asked him to rush to the car to rescue Ishani. By the time they reached the vehicle, the girl’s condition had deteriorated significantly. She was immediately taken to Chaibasa Sadar Hospital,” said Sadar police station officer-in charge Hiralal Mahato.Doctors at the hospital declared Ishani brought dead.Mahato said that prima facie, asphyxiation appears to be the cause of death. However, the exact cause will be determined after the post-mortem examination report is received.
