Patna: More than 80% of the assistant professors selected for state’s 211 newly established degree colleges are residents of the state, claimed Bihar State University Service Commission’s (BSUSC) chairperson Girish Kumar Chaudhary on Tuesday.Of the 2,451 candidates selected for appointment on a contractual basis, 1,980 ( 80.78%) are Bihar residents, he said. The selection process, which began in the first week of July, was completed in 30 days, with the final results announced on August 1.A total of 6,939 candidates were called for interviews for the posts. The chairperson said the selections were made through an all-India process, yet Bihar candidates accounted for more than four-fifths of the final selections.Chaudhary attributed the high proportion of local candidates partly to Bihar’s reservation provisions. Of the total vacancies, 60 per cent are reserved for BC, EBC, SC, ST and EWS categories, with the benefit restricted to Bihar residents. Horizontal reservations for women, persons with disabilities and dependents of freedom fighters also apply to eligible state residents.As a result, at least 76% of candidates selected through the regular recruitment process are expected to be Bihar residents, the chairperson said. He warned that any appointment found to have been secured through false information or documents would be cancelled immediately.
