Ranchi: The state level bankers’ committee (SLBC) has requested the govt to provide identity cards to farmers in order to facilitate sanctioning of loans, officials said.Bank of India general manager, Guru Prasad Gond said, “Issuing identity cards to farmers with land details will reduce the work of banks during sanctioning of loans. Banks will also be able assess the track record of farmers. Moreover, the step will prevent a bank from providing multiple loans to a single person.”Gond made the appeal while attending the mango festival in the city, which concluded on Sunday. The festival was organised by Nabard.Gond added that several states have issued identity cards to farmers which has facilitated credit flow. He also stressed that the need for land possession certificates to provide loans to farmers should be raised from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh.On their initiatives, chief general manager of Nabard, Deepmala Ghosh, said that their focus is to build environmentally sustainable livelihoods projects for tribals. “Mango and other agricultural products showcased during the three-day festival are a part of the initiative. Mangoes have significant potential to enhance farmer incomes by enabling access to premium domestic and international markets,” she said.Several visitors thronged the stalls to purchase mangoes, grown naturally and free from carbide used for ripening.
