RMC removes illegal meat shop, riverside encroachments on flight path

Ranchi: Acting on aviation safety concerns, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Saturday removed an illegal meat shop and cleared encroachments during a major drive from DPS Chowk to Argora via Deputy Pul.The drive, led by assistant commissioner Nikesh Kumar, found an illegal meat shop dumping raw waste into Argora river, attracting flocks of birds in a critical flight path zone.“As the location falls directly within flight path, the birds pose a severe threat to aircraft safety,” Kumar said. He said the shop was immediately removed and added that such drives will continue. The action followed an Airport Environment Management Committee meeting earlier this week, where concerns were raised over bird hits caused by unauthorised meat shops, improper food disposal by restaurants and food vans, and open, waterlogged drains near the airport.RMC also cleared catchment areas, demolishing eight illegal temporary structures along the Argora and near Deputy Pul to restore drainage. The team seized an illegal roadside hoarding, cleared turning points connecting to the main bypass road, removed an illegal temporary shed at a parking site in Alkapuri Road, and cleared footpaths for pedestrian safety.Around 15 roadside shops operating without valid trade licenses were identified and ordered to obtain licenses within three days or face sealing. Five illegal kiosks and carts were confiscated, and vendors were warned against future encroachment.
