Road caves in near Rajendra Nagar Terminal, traffic hit
Repair work going on at the road which collapsed in front of Rajendra Nagar Terminal, in Patna on Friday

Patna: Traffic was disrupted after a section of the road collapsed near busy Rajendra Nagar Terminal in Patna on Friday. The incident occurred on the Kumhrar to Station Road in front of Rajendra Nagar Terminal. After the road caved in, the administration took charge of security and diverted traffic. Currently, vehicles from both sides are being allowed through a single lane, which has led to a traffic jam on the route. Considering the evening office hours, the concerned department immediately started repair work to avoid further inconvenience to commuters. As part of the repair work, the caved-in portion has been filled with concrete. Since it will take time for the concrete to dry and set, barricading has been done for safety. Because cracks were also visible on the other side of the road, iron plates have been laid there.Vehicles from both directions are still being passed through one lane only, increasing pressure on the road. Authorities have appealed to passengers to use alternate routes to avoid the jam.The collapse happened in an area where underground station work for Rajendra Nagar Metro is ongoing. Tunnel excavation work for this started earlier this year. Railways gave NOC to Patna Metro. After getting permission, excavation for tunnel construction began between Moinul Haq Stadium and Rajendra Nagar Terminal for about 800 metres. Construction work, which was stalled since Dec 2025, picked up pace again after railway approval.According to a Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) official, “Rajendra Nagar Metro Station will be the deepest metro station in the Patna Metro Rail project. The metro train will run 21 metres below ground here due to the railway track passing over Rajendra Nagar Railway Station. It will be a special station as it will be directly connected to Rajendra Nagar Railway Terminal, allowing people to easily catch trains from the terminal.Meanwhile, Patna Junction Metro Station will be an interchange station connecting the Red Line and Blue Line. This will make travel easier from Danapur to Khemnichak and New ISBT.
