Patna: An illegal arms manufacturing unit operating under the guise of a grill and welding shop was busted in Patna during a joint operation by the Bihar Special Task Force (STF) and the district police late on Friday night. Two alleged arms manufacturers were arrested, and a cache of illegal firearms, semi-finished weapons and gun-making equipment were seized.The operation was carried out in Kevada village under Kevada OP (police outpost) area of Punpun police station. Acting on specific intelligence about illegal arms manufacturing, the STF first verified the input before launching a joint raid with the district police.The raiding team arrested Siddhnath Sharma, a resident of Kevada village, and Lalan Kumar Singh, a native of Nalanda district who was currently residing in Kevada.

Police alleged that the duo was manufacturing illegal firearms from a workshop disguised as a grill and welding shop.During the raid, police recovered one fully assembled country-made pistol, five semi-finished pistol bodies, 12 live cartridges, 38 unfinished barrels and two rifle barrels. The team also seized machinery allegedly used to manufacture weapons, including a lathe machine, hand drills, an electric cutter, a welding machine, an electric motor, a generator and a base machine, besides a motorcycle and a mobile phone.“A case has been registered at Kevada OP, and further investigation is underway. The criminal antecedents of the arrested accused are being verified, and efforts are on to identify others connected to the illegal arms manufacturing racket,” STF officials said.
