Patna: A total of 694 people were detained across Bihar during the Bihar Bandh on July 25, police said. Following verification, 339 minors and students were released, while 355 people accused of involvement in violent incidents were produced before courts and remanded to judicial custody, added police.Besides, 91 police personnel were injured in stone-pelting and clashes during the bandh. Overall, 174 govt officials, including 167 police personnel and seven civil servants, were injured during protests held between July 22 and 25, according to data released by the Bihar Police Headquarters (PHQ) on Monday.The bandh, called by various student organisations and youth wings of political parties, led to law and order disturbances in several districts.According to the PHQ, 59 FIRs were registered across the state between July 22 and 25, naming 999 accused. During the period, 407 people were arrested.Police said 209 students were among those accused in the violence, while 73 juveniles were sent to juvenile homes in accordance with legal procedures. During the protests, 19 govt vehicles were damaged and 19 civilians were injured.ADG (Law and Order) K Suhita Anupam said the violence resulted in injuries to several senior police officers.“The injured include the SPs of Siwan and Sitamarhi, two sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs) and several station house officers (SHOs). The SHO of Gandhi Maidan police station in Patna sustained serious injuries, while several police personnel suffered head injuries. Thirteen civilians were also injured during the protests,” she said.Police also alleged that protesters targeted govt property. According to the PHQ, 14 govt vehicles were damaged and one vehicle was set ablaze during the violence.The most serious incidents on July 25 were reported from Saran district, where two block development officers (BDOs) were allegedly attacked, police said.The Sadar BDO of Saran sustained grievous injuries and lost vision in one eye. He is undergoing treatment at IGIMS, Patna. In a separate incident, the Revilganj BDO suffered severe head injuries and underwent surgery at a hospital in Patna. Officials said both officers are in a critical but stable condition.Anupam said CCTV footage, video recordings and technical evidence were being analysed to identify more accused.“The bandh turned into coordinated violence against the police and the administration, and those responsible will face stringent legal action. Security has been heightened in sensitive districts and further arrests are expected,” she said.
