Daltonganj: A computer operator at a primary agricultural credit society in Kanda village was remanded in judicial custody late Thursday for allegedly forging digital records and embezzling Rs 13.86 lakh in paddy procurement, police said.Nawa Bazaar police station officer-in charge Sanjay Yadav identified the accused as Rahul Gupta (26). Police alleged Gupta, assisted by Surender Pal (45), manipulated procurement entries to falsely show the buy of 565 quintals of paddy using thumb impressions.Police said no paddy was procured against the entries. The minimum support price for paddy in Jharkhand during 2025-26 was Rs 2,450 per quintal.Gupta allegedly shared part of the proceeds with some people whose thumb impressions he had obtained to prevent objections, police said. Yadav said the alleged fraud took almost a year to uncover.
