Ranchi: Voters residing in Jharkhand but born in other states can submit valid documents issued by the respective state authorities for verification of their age and place of birth during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, chief electoral officer (CEO) K Ravi Kumar said.He said a person’s name can be included in the electoral roll only if the person is an Indian citizen, an ordinary resident of the concerned constituency and has completed 18 years of age on the qualifying date — Oct 1, 2026.Kumar said the verification of eligibility of voters was being conducted in accordance with the procedure prescribed by the Election Commission. “Several voters enrolled in Jharkhand’s electoral rolls were either born in other states or had previously lived elsewhere,” he said.“If such voters receive notices to submit documents for verification of age, place of birth or other details during the claims and objections or hearing process, they may submit valid documents issued by the respective states. It is not necessary for the documents to have been issued in Jharkhand,” Kumar said.“For verification of age, place of birth or family relationships, voters may submit genealogy or family lists issued by competent authorities, khatian records, educational certificates and other documents prescribed by the Election Commission for the SIR,” he said.The documents will be examined by the concerned electoral registration officer (ERO) and, where required, verified with the issuing authority in the respective state.Kumar urged voters who receive notices to appear for hearings within the stipulated time and produce all available valid documents. He directed election officials to assess each case according to the rules to ensure that no eligible Indian citizen is excluded from the electoral roll and that no ineligible or foreign national is included.“Prescribed documents issued by any competent authority in India will be considered during SIR hearings by the ERO or assistant ERO,” Kumar said.
