Daltonganj: A 50-year-old Palamu resident has been missing in Nepal since Aug 26, when a deadly flash flood struck a part of the Nepal-Tibet border, police and family members said.The missing man has been identified as Mahender Vishwakarma, a resident of Barwadeeh village under Mohammadganj police station limits, Hussainabad SDPO Divyansh Shukla said.Vishwakarma’s wife, Kalawati Devi, 44, submitted a written application to Mohammadganj police on Aug 27, stating that she had been unable to contact her husband since the previous day. “She sought police help to trace him in Nepal,” the SDPO said.Vishwakarma had moved to Nepal two months ago and was working with a private firm in New Baneshwar, Kathmandu.Speaking to TOI on the phone on Friday, Kalawati said, “I had my last call to my husband on Aug 25 around 9:45 pm.”She said Vishwakarma was unwell at the time. “He told me that he would be on leave the next day,” she recalled.“He called me on Aug 26 around 8:07 am. I couldn’t take the call. I repent like anything now,” she said.There has been no communication from Vishwakarma since then.Kalawati said she has been having nightmares and that the family is gripped by fear and apprehension. She urged chief minister Hemant Soren and the Centre to take up the matter with the Nepal govt, trace her husband and ensure his safe return.
