Patna: State govt on Thursday agreed to conduct the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4) in a single phase, leading to the end of the ongoing agitation by teacher aspirants. The preliminary test (PT) and Mains examinations have been removed from TRE-4, while the govt has also agreed to the demand of ‘One Candidate, One Result’.Education department secretary Rajiv Raushan was among those who offered juice to teacher aspirants Aman Yadav and Jahnavi Kumari, ending their 10-day hunger strike at Gardanibagh on Thursday.The teacher aspirants decided to call off their agitation after reaching an agreement with the state govt on a series of demands related to recruitment examinations, transparency and reforms in the selection process. The decision followed a meeting chaired by Rajiv.Senior officials of the education department, Patna district magistrate, senior superintendent of police, deputy inspector general of the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) and representatives of the teacher aspirants attended the meeting.After the meeting, CM Samrat Choudhary posted on X about the decisions taken. “The govt has been serious about the students’ demands from the very beginning. Now, a decision has been taken regarding the students’ demands that this year’s TRE-4 examination will be conducted in a single phase. Along with this, 9 other important decisions have also been made,” Samrat posted.Govt has also constituted a special expert committee on examination reforms, chaired by a Patna high court judge, to recommend improvements in various examinations and hear complaints related to them.“The govt has launched a ‘Student Assistance Portal’ and ‘Student Assistance Camps’ for the prompt resolution of students’ problems and complaints. Through these, solutions to students’ problems are being provided within 30 days,” Samrat added.Govt also agreed to examine demands concerning transparency in the 70th BPSC examination, the recruitment process for 1,799 Bihar Police sub-inspector posts and issues related to the Bihar Eligibility Test (BET) conducted before assistant professor recruitment.Complaints and suggestions concerning examination reforms will be placed before the committee headed by a Patna high court judge, and action will be taken according to its recommendations. The process for the 1,799 sub-inspector posts will move forward after the committee submits its report, while BPSC will issue a recruitment calendar and conduct examinations at the earliest.Govt also agreed to initiate action to fill vacant posts through promotions, including those of librarians. Other issues discussed included separate criteria and weightage for contractual employees, a maximum domicile quota in Bihar recruitment processes and the maximum age limit for recruitment examinations.Teacher aspirants also demanded timely publication and strict adherence to recruitment calendars. The govt agreed to place before the committee proposals to ensure transparency in question papers, OMR sheets and answer keys in examinations conducted on the BPSC model.Following the detailed discussions and decisions on their demands, the teacher aspirants unanimously decided to end their agitation.
