CHENNAI: Chief minister C Joseph Vijay on Friday congratulated Tamil Nadu Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa for becoming the first Indian to win the Grand Chess Tour title, hailing his “extraordinary talent and unwavering perseverance”.Praggnanandhaa scripted a stunning comeback in St Louis, defeating American Fabiano Caruana 15-13 in the final to clinch his maiden Grand Chess Tour title, Vijay said in a social media post.The 21-year-old had started the final day six points behind Caruana but fought back with two wins in rapid games before holding his nerve in the blitz section.Vijay said Praggnanandhaa had displayed exceptional mental strength and strategic acumen against some of the world’s best players, adding that the feat would inspire youngsters and bring pride to Tamil Nadu and India.“His magnificent triumph not only instils new hope and inspiration among youngsters but also brings immense pride to Tamil Nadu and India,” he said.The CM wished Praggnanandhaa continued success and more achievements on the global stage.
