Buxar: Residents heaved a sigh of relief on Sunday as the Ganga began to recede in Buxar with the water level recorded at 60.40 metre, 8cm above the danger mark of 60.32 metre. The level was falling by around 1cm per hour. Floodwaters have affected several diara and low-lying areas and reached the Buxar-Mohania National Highway, disrupting traffic.The district administration has deployed 36 boats for movement of affected people and relief work. Floodwaters have reached several villages in Buxar, Chausa, Brahmpur, Simri and Chakki blocks.Polythene sheets have been distributed to 853 affected families, while additional relief material has been kept ready. Two pregnant women were also safely evacuated from Dhabhi village in Brahmpur using a boat ambulance and shifted to a nearby health centre.In-charge secretary, Buxar-cum-secretary, energy department Ajay Yadav inspected affected areas with Buxar district magistrate Sahila and other officials. He directed officials to ensure timely availability of food, drinking water, medicines and other essentials, besides keeping boats, boatmen and divers ready.Officials were also asked to maintain round-the-clock monitoring of water levels, embankments and vulnerable locations. The district emergency operations centre is functioning 24×7, while public-address systems are being used to advise residents to move to safer places.
