Bokaro: Thieves in Bokaro appear to have shifted focus from stealing entire air-conditioners to targeting copper pipes, electrical wires and outdoor AC units, leaving residents with costly repairs and unusable appliances.Several such incidents have been reported across the city in recent months. By stealing copper pipes and wiring, thieves are causing losses that often run into thousands of rupees, as homeowners are forced to replace pipes, undertake electrical work and refill refrigerants. In some cases, residents said replacing the entire AC becomes a more viable option. Many victims refrain from approaching the police, considering such incidents minor thefts and fearing lengthy procedural formalities. However, some complaints have been formally lodged. In Sector VI, police registered an FIR on the complaint of Ranveer Singh after AC pipes were allegedly stolen from three houses, including House No. 1144 in Sector VI-B on Monday.A similar incident was reported under city police station limits in Sector I-B. Resident Abdul Salam alleged that thieves stole three outdoor AC units, along with pipes and other components, from two houses.Police said investigations are underway and CCTV footage is being examined. “We are conducting an investigation after receiving complaints in this connection. CCTV footage has been assessed. The accused will be behind bars soon,” an officer said. Attempts to reach city DSP Rajeev Ranjan for comment were unsuccessful.
