Hazaribag: A 70-year-old woman was allegedly murdered inside her house in Gondalpura village in Hazaribag district on Friday morning, police said. She was identified as Tetri Devi.Villagers said her daughter-in-law went to deliver food at around 8 am and found the house locked from outside. After opening the door, she found Tetri lying in a pool of blood on a cot. Police said she had been attacked with a sharp-edged weapon.The incident triggered panic, following which residents informed the police. A team led by Barkagaon police station officer in-charge Deepak Kumar Singh reached the spot. Acting on the villagers’ request, police also brought in a sniffer dog to look for clues and questioned the woman’s relatives. The body was sent to Hazaribag for a postmortem examination.Singh said the incident was “highly condemnable” and that police were investigating the case from all possible angles. He added that the person responsible would not be spared and would be arrested soon.The murder has renewed concerns over the spate of killings in Gondalpura and neighbouring areas. In Sept 2023, panchayat samiti member Mohan Mahto, 32, was murdered in remote Jorakat. In Oct 2024, the body of Sandeep Mahto was recovered near Bela bridge, following which a murder case was registered. In Feb this year, elderly couple Vakil Ram and Jhuniya Devi were murdered in Babupara. Police later solved that case and arrested the accused.
