Bokaro: A 65-year-old man was swept away by the Konar river at Jobera village under the IEL police station of Bokaro district while returning home after attending a Jhumar programme organised as part of the Karma festival in Gomia on Wednesday, police said.Officer in-charge of the IEL police station, Shyamal Mandal, said, “The deceased, identified as Mundrika Yadav, had gone to adjoining Gandke village in the Bokaro Thermal police station area on Tuesday evening to attend the cultural event. He reportedly watched the programme throughout the night and took a route along the river for home early Wednesday.”“Yadav was crossing Konar river when a sudden surge of water caught him off guard. He lost his balance and was swept away by the current. Some villagers fishing nearby saw him being carried downstream and raised an alarm, but they were unable to rescue him due to the strong flow. Divers have been deployed to trace Yadav,” the OC added.
