Hazaribag: Residents are opposing the construction of a floating restaurant on the Hazaribag Lake and proposed installation of a toilet near the site, citing the area’s religious significance during Chhath Puja.Ward number 4 councillor Anil Prasad Prasad said, “The lake serves as a major venue for Chhath celebrations, attracting large numbers of devotees who gather to offer prayers to the Sun God. While development projects are welcome, they should not come at the cost of religious sentiments or the sanctity of the lake.”The construction of the floating restaurant is under way and a toilet facility is proposed as part of the project. “I am not against development, but local traditions and public sentiments must be respected,” he said.Mayor Arvind Rana said, “The project is being executed by the state urban development department. The facility would consist of a floating restaurant with a room and a verandah, where only tea would be served. The proposed toilet would be relocated to another site.”
