Dumka: Two men and three bovines were killed when a pick-up truck overturned on the Karmatand-Madankatta main road in Jamtara district late Wednesday night, police said. The deceased were identified as Ashraf Ansari (35) and Rafiq Ansari (40). Both were residents of Chirudih village under Bankudih panchayat in Narayanpur police station area.Alakh Nath Choubey, the officer in charge of Karmatand police station, said the vehicle overturned near Shakalpur-Shaharjori around 2:30 am when its driver tried to flee after spotting a police patrol.“Preliminary investigation suggests that the occupants were transporting stolen cattle. The driver apparently tried to speed away after noticing the police patrol, but the vehicle lost control at a sharp turn and skidded on loose soil before it overturned,” Choubey said. The Bolero was carrying five cattle.“It was subsequently established that four bulls, which were on the vehicle, were stolen from Nimai Mahto and Panchu Mahto, residents of Gedia village under Bindapathar police station,” the OC said. Ashraf and Rafiq’s bodies were sent to Jamtara Sadar Hospital for postmortem examination.
