Jamshedpur: The younger daughter of state rural development and panchayati raj minister Deepika Pandey Singh was killed with three other teenagers when their car crashed into a truck in Jamshedpur early Thursday.Singh’s daughter Trisha alias Yuvika (18) was travelling in the car with Vanshika Khandelwal (17), Naman Gupta (17) and Sarthak Agarwal (18), which crashed into a truck parked on Marine Drive, under Sonari police station limits, around 3:30 am. All of them were killed on the spot, police said.Trisha lived in Kadma while Vanshika was a resident of Adityapur. Naman and Sarthak were residents of Sonari. All of them were Class 12 students at Carmel Junior College. The institution will remain closed on Friday as a mark of respect to the deceased students.Police said the teenagers had left Sarthak’s flat after 2 am in the car after a group study session and headed to Marine Drive. Sarthak’s parents are away on a pilgrimage to Kedarnath in Uttarakhand.Around 3:30 am, their speeding car rammed into the rear of a truck, which was parked at a side of Marine Drive after suffering a breakdown, near Domuhani. The impact of the collision left their car mangled and critically injured all its occupants. Locals, hearing a loud noise, reached the scene and tried to rescue them. However, all of them succumbed to their injuries before help could arrive. It was not clear who was driving the car, the police said.Police handed over the bodies to their families after postmortem examination at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College. Trisha’s body was taken to Ranchi. Police have seized both vehicles and initiated an investigation. Dy SP (Headquarters-II) Manoj Thakur said, “The exact cause of the accident would be ascertained after a detailed probe.”In his statement, the truck owner said his vehicle developed a mechanical fault late Tuesday night and was parked on the roadside as repairs were being carried out. He claimed that reflectors and a tree branch had been placed behind the truck to warn approaching motorists.CM Hemant Soren, other cabinet ministers and members across political parties expressed grief over the incident.
