New Delhi: Former Agniveers may soon get direct recruitment into Delhi Police, Home Guards and Delhi Fire Service without having to appear for written examinations or physical tests. Delhi govt is also considering a 20% horizontal reservation for ex-Agniveers in these services.Under the proposed framework, the vacancies would be earmarked for ex-Agniveers, with their selection adjusted within the existing SC, ST, OBC, EWS and general-category reservation system. The first batch of Agniveers completing their four-year tenure may also get a three-year age relaxation, in addition to a five-year relaxation already proposed by Centre. This would allow eligible candidates to apply even if they are up to eight years older than the prescribed upper age limit.According to sources, home department is working on amendments to recruitment rules to facilitate the induction of the first batch of Agniveers, who are scheduled to complete their tenure by Dec 2026. The exercise is being undertaken on the directions of the ministry of home affairs.Agniveers are personnel recruited into the armed forces under the Agnipath scheme for a four-year term, after which a section is retained for regular service while others exit and pursue employment opportunities elsewhere.“The proposed amendments will apply to recruitment in Delhi Police, Home Guards, Delhi Fire Service and other agencies under the home department. They are aimed at creating a pathway for ex-Agniveers to transition into regular govt employment,” a source said, adding that the process of amending the recruitment rules was underway.“The move is being planned ahead of the completion of the first batch of Agniveers, whose four-year tenure is due to end in Dec. The home department is accordingly working on amendments to the recruitment rules for the three services to bring them in line with the Centre’s directions on providing employment opportunities to ex-Agniveers. Once finalised and approved by the competent authorities, the amended recruitment rules will be notified by Delhi govt,” the source added. The proposed recruitment process is expected to provide significant exemptions from the conventional selection procedure. Eligible ex-Agniveers are likely to be exempted from the written examination as well as the physical standard and physical efficiency tests. The age relaxation is also expected to ensure that those completing military service do not face a disadvantage while seeking govt jobs.Sources said the recruitment process may be conducted in two phases. In the first phase, vacancies earmarked for ex-Agniveers could be filled separately, while the remaining posts would be filled through the existing recruitment process.“If some vacancies reserved for ex-Agniveers remain unfilled, they may subsequently be taken up along with the remaining vacancies, subject to the final recruitment rules and directions from the authorities,” a source said.An official said the move would provide govt access to a pool of trained and disciplined personnel whose military experience could be utilised in policing, firefighting and home-guard duties.
