CM, Rahul ignoring CBI probe demand: Seth; Cong, JMM hit back

Ranchi: Union minister of state for defence Sanjay Seth on Saturday accused chief minister Hemant Soren and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi of ignoring protesters seeking a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC examinations.Addressing reporters at state BJP headquarters, Seth demanded a CBI investigation into all examinations conducted by the two commissions over the past six years, claiming aspirants had no faith in a CID probe. He condemned Friday’s police action against students who attempted to burn the chief minister’s effigy after Jharkhand high court stayed the state govt’s decision to cancel the 11th and 13th JPSC civil services examinations, JSSC-CGL and other recruitment tests.“The police action against students, including those who went to hospital for treatment, was reminiscent of the Emergency. They were raising their demands peacefully. Govt must order a CBI inquiry,” Seth said.He also attacked Rahul for not expressing concern over the injuries sustained by protesters. Calling him “opportunistic”, Seth said the Congress MP should visit Jharkhand and support the agitation if he genuinely stood with students.Seth sought to know what action was taken on a 2024 letter by former JPSC chairperson Nilima Kerketta flagging shortcomings in the commission. He also questioned the four-year delay in arresting Bynsis Technology director Arun Kumar in the 2022 JSSC junior engineer paper leak case and alleged attempts to shield three former JPSC members.Former chief minister and BJP member Champai Soren on Saturday criticised the state govt on alleged exam irregularities and reiterated a CBI probe.Congress spokesperson Rakesh Sinha accused BJP of “double standards”, while former minister and JMM member Mithilesh Thakur said earlier CBI probes into JPSC examinations had yielded no result.
