Jamshedpur: A 21-year-old man of Raghunathpur in West Bengal died on the spot after falling between a moving train and the platform while trying to jump off at Adityapur railway station on Monday, RPF officials said.Md Akbar, along with his friend Altamas Khan, had boarded the general compartment of the Chapra-Tatanagar passenger train at Joychandi Pahar earlier in the day. Akbar was to catch a weekly train to Visakhapatnam from Adityapur.The Tatanagar-bound train has no scheduled halt at Adityapur. But it had slowed and was about to stop as it did not receive a green signal. Believing it might not halt, Akbar tried to jump onto the platform, lost balance, and slipped into the gap.“His right hand was severed and he also suffered severe head injuries, resulting in his death on the spot,” said Ajit Kumar Singh, inspector in-charge of the RPF Adityapur post.In a separate incident early Monday, 35-year-old Sagu Ram suffered severe burns after coming in contact with a high-tension overhead wire at Tatanagar railway station.Railway officials said Sagu Ram had deboarded the Katihar-Tatanagar Express and later climbed onto the roof of a stationary Tatanagar-Danapur Express. As he walked on the coach roof, he touched the live overhead wire and was thrown on to the platform. He was rushed to the railway hospital, which referred him to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH).“We will obtain more details about him after he regains consciousness,” said Chakradharpur railway division spokesperson Aditya Choudhary. His mental condition would also be examined, officials said.The case follows two recent electrocution incidents at Tatanagar. On May 30, a private firm technician died while repairing the air-conditioning system of a Vande Bharat train at the railway yard. On May 6, a youth suffered critical burns after touching a live overhead wire while climbing on to a goods train at the station.
