Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation starts repairs of 180 roads at a cost of Rs 62 cr

Kolkata: The BMC has taken up the repair of over 180 stretches at a cost of nearly Rs 62.6 crore. About 63 roads are in Salt Lake and the rest in Rajarhat Gopalpur.Officials said while concrete blocks would be laid at some places, some stretches would be repaired with bitumen mastic and at others, concrete-cast roads would be constructed.Following complaints of battered roads in Salt Lake for a long time, Bidhannagar MLA and minister Sharadwat Mukherjee held meetings with BMC officials. The BMC on Friday announced the tender process for most stretches was over and work had also started in some places, like on the stretch from Tank No. 13 to Anindita Island and near Bidhannagar North PS. “Going by the CM’s directives, a target has been set to finish the road repairs by Oct 10. Rs 62.6 crore has been allocated,” said an official.Roads inside Salt Lake blocks will be laid with bitumen mastic and concrete blocks will be laid on thoroughfares. “Concrete blocks can be installed during monsoon,” said a civic engineer.
