Patna: BJP on Saturday defended the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, while RLM chief Upendra Kushwaha welcomed clarifications from the Election Commission on the exercise and appealed to people to remain cautious of those spreading falsehoods.BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi accused opposition parties of spreading confusion and mistrust over SIR, saying the exercise was intended to make electoral rolls more accurate and reliable. He said deletion of duplicate entries and names of deceased voters and those who had permanently shifted would help prevent bogus voting.Saraogi questioned why alleged irregularities were not raised in constituencies won by Opposition parties or during elections in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. He said the EC had given political parties opportunities to verify changes made during the Bihar revision and raise concerns about voters whose details could not be verified.Targeting Congress’s Rahul Gandhi, Saraogi questioned whether he was fully informed about the process and urged opposition parties to base criticism on facts rather than make allegations against constitutional institutions.Kushwaha, who had sought clarification from the EC a day earlier, said, “Now, matters have been clarified from the Election Commission’s side with utmost clarity. For this, I express heartfelt thanks to the commission. At the same time, I appeal to the people to remain cautious of those spreading falsehoods.”
