Ranchi: Two men were swept away in strong currents after their boat capsized in Subarnarekha river in Jamshedpur’s Baridih area early on Saturday.The missing persons were identified as Amit Kumar and Bittu Kumar, both aged between 30 and 35 years and residents of different parts of the city. Police said three persons — Vicky, Bittu and Amit — had gone to the river around 3 am on Saturday to catch fish for sale in the market.Their boat became unstable and sank midstream, police said. Vicky managed to swim to the bank, but Amit and Bittu were swept away by the current.Locals launched a search after learning about the incident, but darkness and the strong flow of water hampered their efforts. Police reached the spot around 8 am and began rescue operations.National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel were deployed in the river, along with local divers who joined the operation on Saturday morning. However, the two men remained untraced till late evening as the search continued in difficult conditions. Officials said strong currents hampered rescue efforts across the affected stretch throughout the day.
