Chennai: Bodhan AI, a centre of excellence in AI for education incubated at IIT Madras, has launched four open AI models for Indian languages. These models will convert spoken language into text, recognise and extract text from documents and images, translate content across 22 Indian languages and convert text into natural-sounding speech.These four voice and vision models, including automatic speech recognition, machine translation and optical character recognition, are an early flagship output, designed to enable development of AI solutions across Indian languages.Developed in partnership with AI4Bharat, the models are made available to the wider technology and education ecosystem as digital public goods.“The frontier models such as Gemini or ChatGPT don’t do well in Indian languages.
