Chatra: A private bodyguard was arrested on charges of shooting his colleague dead outside the office-cum-residence of Chatra SP Animesh Naithani on Tuesday, police said.The deceased was identified as Atul Kumar, 30, a native of Buxar district in Bihar. The accused, Balveer Singh, 30, is also from Bihar. Both were bodyguards of Belaganj MLA Manorama Yadav’s son and contractor Rocky Yadav, alias Vineet Yadav. Rocky’s firm is executing the Chatra bypass project, police added.Preliminary investigation revealed that Rocky went to meet the SP for work while the two guards waited in his vehicle parked outside. An argument broke out between them, allegedly over a request for chewing tobacco, and was aggravated by personal rivalry. The dispute escalated, and Balveer allegedly drew out his weapon and fired at Atul. The bullet hit Atul in the head, killing him on the spot, police added.Police personnel deployed nearby rushed to the site after hearing the gunshot, overpowered Balveer and seized the firearm. Atul’s body was sent for post-mortem examination.Police said the exact motive is yet to be established.The SP said, “Both men were travelling in the same vehicle when a minor altercation turned fatal. Police also seized Rocky’s vehicle and called a forensic team to collect evidence.”
