Buxar MLA backs police encounters

Patna: BJP’s Buxar MLA and former IPS officer of the Assam and Meghalaya cadre, Anand Mishra, on Sunday said Bihar police are acting within the law in eliminating criminals through encounters, asserting they have no identity beyond crime.“The criminals eliminated in recent times carry several charges of murder and organised crime. When police challenged them, they tried to attack the police force. In such a situation, the police have no other way left except to carry out actions as they did within the boundary of law,” Mishra said.“Several criminal elements with past records are also being brought into the police net in Khagaria district,” Mishra said, adding, “It has now become clear that nobody is above law. Anyone who commits crime will have to face the music.”“This fight is not targeted at any caste, region or religion. The criminals have no other identity except that of being criminals,” he said.Meanwhile, the state Congress supported action against criminals but urged caution. Former state Congress chief and Rajya Sabha member Akhilesh Prasad Singh said, “If those killed through police encounters are criminals, then I have no objection, but innocent persons should not become victims of such operations. How can anyone target a caste?”
