Chatra: The Chatra district administration has stepped up efforts to ensure timely availability of blood for accident victims and critically-ill patients, with special emphasis on involving coal mining companies operating in the Tandwa region.Deputy commissioner Ravi Anand on Monday held discussions with officials of various mining companies and directed them to coordinate with the Red Cross Society, Chatra, for organising regular blood donation camps. The move is aimed at maintaining adequate blood stock for patients suffering from thalassemia, cancer, maternity-related complications and other serious illnesses, apart from those injured in road accidents.Anand said the administration wants greater participation from industrial units and corporate establishments in humanitarian initiatives such as blood donation drives, given the rising requirement of blood in emergency medical situations.Appealing to residents to donate voluntarily, the DC said, “Blood donation is one of the noblest services to humanity and even a single unit of blood can help save multiple lives.” He added that ensuring uninterrupted blood availability in the district remains a top priority of the administration.Stressing community participation, Anand urged youths, social organisations and institutions to actively support the campaign. He also instructed officials to conduct awareness programmes at the local level to motivate more people and remove misconceptions associated with blood donation.Red Cross Society, Chatra secretary Dharmendra Pathak said regular blood donation camps are already being organised with support from the district administration and social organisations.Officials said the directions for regular camps were issued during Saturday’s district road safety committee meeting, where emergency medical response and blood availability for road accident victims were also discussed.
