NEW DELHI:More than 2.18 lakh claims for inclusion and over 51,000 objections seeking removal of voter names have been filed in Delhi within the first two days of the claims and objections period under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), according to official data.Data from the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) showed that 2,18,139 Form-6 applications had been submitted for inclusion in the electoral roll till September 1, news agency PTI reported.Of these, 2,14,534 were filed up to August 31 and another 3,605 on September 1.The claims and objections period began on August 31 and will continue until September 30. Voters can use Form-6 to seek inclusion of their names, Form-7 to raise objections and seek removal of names, and Form-8 to seek changes in their registered address.
West Delhi leads voter inclusion claims
West Delhi recorded the highest number of Form-6 applications at 29,510, followed by South East Delhi with 25,446, North East with 25,010, North West with 22,189 and South West with 20,191.South East Delhi recorded the highest number of objections seeking removal of names from the electoral roll, with 14,663 Form-7 applications filed till September 1.A total of 51,522 Form-7 applications were filed during the first two days after publication of the draft electoral roll.After South East Delhi, the highest numbers came from North Delhi with 11,626 objections, West Delhi with 8,930 and East Delhi with 2,621.South East Delhi also recorded the highest number of exclusions from the draft electoral roll among Delhi’s 13 districts.
Over 2.63 lakh seek address changes
Voters also submitted 2,63,801 Form-8 applications seeking changes in their registered addresses.East Delhi recorded the highest number at 33,083, followed by North East Delhi with 32,783, South East Delhi with 30,581, South Delhi with 26,331 and West Delhi with 25,387.
47.5 lakh names excluded from Delhi draft roll
The draft electoral roll published after the SIR exercise excluded around 47.5 lakh voters from the existing electorate of 1.45 crore across Delhi’s 70 assembly constituencies.The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 4.The voters excluded from the draft roll have been categorised under Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate (ASDD) and other categories.Officials said more than 43 lakh of those excluded were in the absent or shifted categories.
Over 33 lakh voters likely to get notices
Election officials have also started issuing notices to voters whose details appeared in the draft roll with mismatches or anomalies in personal information submitted during the enumeration exercise.More than 33 lakh voters whose names appear in the draft roll are likely to receive notices from the poll body, officials said.The notices and verification process will continue until October 29, after which the final electoral rolls will be published.Poll officials said notices would be issued where voters’ details could not be linked to the 2002 Delhi SIR or where discrepancies were detected in personal details recorded in the enumeration forms.(With agency inputs)
