Education dept tells TN schools to ready for reopening on June 1

Chennai: School managements across the state will be buried in work over the next ten days as students are all set for the reopening day on June 1. From readying warehouses, removing electricity cables and closing septic tanks to painting school name boards and stocking rations, the school education department has instructed school heads to tend to various tasks in the upcoming week. School heads have also been instructed to ensure that computers, laptops and digital tablets supplied to schools are maintained for continuous usage. “Smartboards provided to primary schools must be checked once before the classes commence in June. If the gadgets are not functioning, a ticket can be raised on EMIS to get them ready before schools,” director of elementary education P Naresh said.On priority, school heads have been asked to ensure a smooth transition of students from govt primary schools to govt middle schools. “The aim is to get 100% of the students enrolled in govt primary schools to shift to govt middle and high schools. School heads, especially those in remote areas, have been asked to devote additional care to this,” Naresh added.Instructions also include general guidelines to ensure safety. “Damaged or dilapidated buildings, if any, on campuses must be barricaded to cut access to students. If high-voltage electric wires pass through the campus, immediate action should be taken to reroute such lines. Septic tanks, wells and borewells within campuses should be covered,” the circular read.Meanwhile, officials said that 95% of the stitching work for free uniforms has been completed and 71% of the garments have been distributed to schools. “The stitching work and distribution of the remaining uniforms will also be expedited so that it reaches students before school reopening,” school education director S Kannappan said.
