Mira Road: A 75-year-old woman from Mira Road was allegedly duped of Rs 1.7 crore by a cyber fraudster who befriended her on Facebook and posed as a foreign-based man planning to move to Mumbai and live with her.According to the police, the woman came in contact with a man identifying himself as Prince Faisal in April. He allegedly gained her trust and told her that he would come to Mumbai, take care of her and even buy a house in Mira Road for them. He subsequently told her that he was sending her an expensive gift through a courier service.The accused later claimed that the parcel had been held up by a shipping company and demanded money to get it cleared. Trusting him, the woman allegedly made several payments to accounts provided by him. Over a period of nearly five months, she transferred a total of Rs 1.7 crore.The woman realised that she had been cheated after the accused stopped responding to her. Following her complaint, Kashimira police registered a case of cheating against the unidentified person who allegedly posed as Prince Faisal.
