Five-year-old girl killed, six injured after speeding car hits bikes in Ghatsila

Jamshedpur: A five-year-old girl was killed and six others injured after a speeding car hit multiple two-wheelers in a hit-and-run incident on the Subarnarekha river overbridge at Amainagar under Ghatsila police station limits in East Singhbhum late Wednesday night.Police said the car first rammed into two scooters and a motorcycle, injuring three commuters. While trying to flee, the driver allegedly lost control and crashed into another motorcycle carrying a family of four. The impact threw pillion rider Sushmita Sinha (48) over the bridge railing into the Subernarekha river.NDRF teams launched a search operation and rescued Sushmita alive nearly two kilometres downstream after about two hours. However, her daughter Shreya (5) died during treatment at Tata Main Hospital. Her husband Subrato Sinha (56) remains critical, while their two-year-old son and Sushmita are recovering.Enraged locals chased the vehicle, dragged out driver Govardhan Patra (45) and another occupant, and assaulted them before police intervened. Both are hospitalised. Police said Patra’s blood samples have been collected to ascertain whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol.Investigation is underway.
