Mumbai: The police apprehended a 26-year-old video editor for driving recklessly against the traffic on a one-way street in Andheri (West) and obstructing police personnel who stopped him on Wednesday.The accused, Saksham Kumar Ashok Kumar, an Andheri resident, was driving a car near Evershine Cosmic Building on the 90 Feet Road around 6.30 pm, endangering lives and property, said the police. The police seized Kumar’s car.Traffic police constables Madhav Shirsath and Kishor Bhutekar signalled Kumar to stop but he allegedly continued driving. He stopped after noticing Shirsath photographing the vehicle to issue an e-challan.Kumar allegedly questioned the constables’ authority to stop him or photograph his car. After being told that he had driven on the wrong side, he allegedly argued with and abused the personnel. The police said he recorded a video on his mobile phone and falsely accused the constables of damaging his car and assaulting him.“Kumar, who tried to speed away, stopped his car on noticing we clicked his vehicle photo to issue e-challan. He stopped and screamed that you people cannot stop me and you have no right to take a photo of my car,” said Shirsath in the FIR.Shirsath called police control room for assistance when the matter became serious. When a police team arrived, Kumar allegedly created a ruckus, refused to accompany the officers, obstructed them, pushed Shirsath’s hand away and shoved him. The police used mild force to place him in their vehicle.At the Amboli police station, Kumar allegedly initially refused to disclose his identity, spoke loudly, threatened an officer and tried to leave before being stopped by personnel. “Kumar has been charged with dangerous driving under the Motor Vehicle Act and under the BNS act for causing grievous hurt, endangering life, assault or criminal force to deter public servant from performing duty, rash driving and criminal intimidation,” said the police.
