Mumbai: Greater Mumbai recorded its strongest July in more than 14 years as homebuyers continued to purchase properties despite elevated prices and a high base from last year.An analysis of data from the state’s department of registrations and stamps by Knight Frank India estimates that 13,617 properties were registered within the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) limits in July 2026, an 8.3% increase over the 12,579 registrations recorded in July last year. The estimate is based on the month’s daily registration run rate. The buoyant market also translated into higher revenues for the state govt, with stamp duty collections projected to touch Rs 1,223 crore, up 8.9% year-on-year and the highest ever for the month of July. The data also points to a shift in the value of transactions. While registrations increased by a modest 2% over June 2026, stamp duty collections jumped 13% month-on-month, indicating a greater share of higher-value property deals during July.Property registrations in July have risen from 5,139 in 2013 to an estimated 13,617 this year, while monthly stamp duty collections have surged from Rs 287 crore to Rs 1,223 crore over the same period. The July performance follows another strong month for the market. Mumbai recorded 13,413 property registrations in June 2026, meaning registrations have remained above the 13,000 mark for two consecutive months.
