Ranchi: While paying tributes to Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya on the 59th Engineers’ Day programme, Jharkhand Engineering Services Association (JESA) on Tuesday also raised a series of demands for their smooth functioning in the state.Ministers Yogendra Prasad, Dipika Pandey and Hafizul Hasan, departmental secretaries Arva Rajkamal and Abu Imran and senior engineering officials were present on the occasion.Addressing the function, JESA general secretary Mohammad Arif Iqubal raised the need for regular govt vehicles and drivers for inspection and implementation of schemes, particularly in remote areas. He also sought adequate accommodation for engineers posted in far-flung areas. Arif sought an engineers’ academy too for road construction department engineers and a modern material testing laboratory from govt.He also highlighted the absence of fresh recruitment in the engineering cadre for the past seven years and urged govt to restart the recruitment process.Minister Yogendra Prasad assured early and positive cooperation on JESA’s demands. He urged the engineers to remain focused on their responsibilities despite criticism. He added that it was the responsibility of all concerned authorities to develop rural and deprived areas of the state.Singh stressed the importance of quality in construction works, adding that under the leadership of CM Hemant Soren, Jharkhand should have projects of such quality that other states cite them as examples. She added that state govt aims to have a team which has experience and youthfulness. She observed that the detailed project reports should be such that they were not revised in a short span.Secretary Arva Rajkamal assured the association that he would make early positive efforts to address its demands.The programme was organised around the theme “RISE – Resilient, Intelligent and Sustainable Engineering”, focusing on innovation, new technology and sustainable infrastructure development.
