HC orders admin to ensure adequate security during Rath Mela

Chandrajit MukherjeeRanchi: The Jharkhand high court on Tuesday directed the state govt and the district administration to ensure adequate security while organising the forthcoming Rath Yatra in Ranchi.Following the court’s directive, Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan and Ranchi DC Manjunath Bhajantri visited the venue.While hearing a series of petitions with regard to dispute of the trustees of the Jagannathpur Temple, the court of Justice Ananda Sen ordered the Jharkhand state religious trust board to formulate a scheme for proper administration of the temple.In course of arguments, advocate general Rohitashya Roy informed the court that the earlier provision of deployment of police personnel was modified by the govt and instead armed policemen will now be posted in the temple premises and mela perimeter for its security.The police will be posted in the temple premises as well as the mela grounds during the entire period of the Rath Mela, which is due to commence from July 16, and will continue for a fortnight, the advocate general said.The high court earlier, while hearing the writ petitions with regard to claims and counterclaims between two rival groups of the temple management, ordered the senior superintendent of police to deploy police around the clock for protection of the temple and devotees visiting it. The case will again be heard on July 22.
